Learning and prevention: Seminar at Mondelez

At DEMMPRO, we believe that knowledge is the basis of industrial safety. Therefore, we conducted a specialized seminar on Functional Safety of Machines in Mondelez, where we delved into key regulations and strategies for risk prevention in industrial environments.

This event counted with the participation of our experts Octavio Vasquez and Erick Paul Martinez Castro, who guided the attendees in the analysis of the ISO 13849-1 standard, fundamental for the reliability of control systems and the protection of machinery interveners.

One of the highlights was the study of safety categories, from Category B to Category 4, addressing how each level defines the resistance to failure and behavior to possible failures:

• Category B and 1: Basic designs that follow safety principles, but without failure detection mechanisms. They cannot anticipate how a failure will occur and do not include advanced control systems.
• Category 2: Introduces periodic fault monitoring, which allows detecting faults before the safety function is affected. However, it does not feature redundancy.
• Category 3: Implements redundancy in key components, which prevents a single failure from compromising system safety.
• Category 4: Highest level of safety, with redundancy, continuous monitoring and the ability to tolerate multiple failures without losing the safety function.
